Operational Planning of Medium-Voltage Electricity Distribution Networks
The aim of the project is to develop optimal planning procedures for the operation
of MV electricity networks. In other words, the project should develop methods for determining optimal network topology, quantity and location of switching devices, and disposition and size of shunt capacitor banks.
Operational MV electricity distribution network planning (to be distinguished from
long-term planning) involves activities aimed at improving network performance
(loss reduction, improvement of voltage conditions, increase of network throughput,
reduction of non-delivered electrical energy etc.) within the existing level of basic infrastructure. Each operational planning method needs to be valued on the basis of the relation between its cost and savings resulting from its application. Software tools are developed by developing adequate optimal methods and coding program packages for each individual operational planning activity. Their application allows the calculation of minimal total costs, i.e. the valuation of optimum effects of individual measures on the performance of electricity networks.
