Waste Management in Island Communities:
Strategy to Integrate Waste-to-Energy Policies:
WTE - ISLE (2001 - 2002)
The project, which was executed under the umbrella of the EU ENERGIE 5th
Framework Programme, aimed to incite the utilisation and implementation of waste
processing technologies and energy production from waste.
Project activities included: an overview and analysis of existing technologies for
producing energy from waste; identification of specific parameters that characterise
each island under examination and their integration into waste management
practices; development of a strategy for the promotion of energy generation
from waste; presentation of project results to potential beneficiaries.
The project’s management was, in its entirety, assigned to EXERGIA, a consulting
company from Athens, Greece.
