Feasibility Study for a Wood Waste
Cogeneration Facility at the SpaČva Wood and
Lumber Industry in Vinkovci, Republic of
Croatia
The goal of the project is to determine technical and economic characteristics of
a cogeneration unit in a large wood and lumber facility that has a high volume of
usable wood waste. The project aims to develop a model for similar industrial facilities.
The Spačva wood and lumber facility located in Vinkovci produces 30,000 m3 of
wood waste per year. Most of it can be used for producing energy. It is assumed
that an adequate cogeneration unit that could produce energy from one third of
the aforementioned volume of wood waste, could satisfy the facility’s heat and
electricity requirements. In that regard, a feasibility study for the construction of
a cogeneration unit, which includes a wood waste boiler and a steam turbine, has
been elaborated. In addition, the study analyses the types of fuel available to the
facility, and provides a technical and economic analysis that takes into consideration
several development scenarios.
