Pilot Project of Energy Efficiency in Buildings:
Infant Nursery Ivanćica in the City of Osijek
Implementation of energy efficiency pilot projects in buildings should serve as a
basis for the development of guidelines for the application of energy efficiency
measures and energy management practices in buildings.
Infant nursery Ivanćica in Osijek is a freestanding, ground floor facility build in
1974. The building was heavily damaged by bombshells during the 1991 - 1995
war. An analysis of its present condition revealed that the external envelope (walls
and flat roof) is in exceptionally bad condition, the façade is almost completely
ruined, the windows have poor thermal characteristics, and the building has a flat
roof that is leaking.
The building’s reconstruction aims to increase energy efficiency. The reconstruction
involves the reparation of the building’s external envelope (walls and flat roof);
replacement of existing windows; smaller interventions in the fittings - increase
of the lighting system’s efficiency, the installation of thermostatic valves and thermal
insulation of the fittings. Additional thermal insulation of the building’s external
envelope will reduce heat demand by 72 percent in relation to the present
(from an average 280 kWh/m2 to less than 80 kWh/m2). This process reduces
annual CO2 emissions by 135 tonnes.
