The Department employs economists, legal experts and engineers engaged in
activities resulting from the implementation of the Energy Sector Development
Strategy of the Republic of Croatia, and the Croatian Energy Sector Development
and Organisation Project (PROHES).
The Department provides expert support to the administrative bodies of the Republic
of Croatia, local and regional administrative bodies, and to businesses
operating in the energy sector.
Other significant activities include: work related to the regulation and supervision
of activities performed by various energy subjects present on the Croatian
energy market; establishment of an organised environment necessary for the
functioning of the Croatian energy sector on market principles; questions related
to the dynamism of the energy sector’s opening in regard to European Union Directives
concerning the liberalisation of the electricity and gas markets.
In conditions determined by the processes of energy system restructuring and
liberalisation, the Department manages activities related to the formation of an
adequate legislative environment. In addition, it manages processes which aim
to complement existing energy legislation and related secondary legislation. All
of the above regulate business conditions and principles on the Croatian energy
market, and enable the performance of energy subjects present on the market.
The Department continuously follows advances in professional research and the
work of relevant EU institutions. This is done by participating on conferences,
seminars, workshops, round tables and by exchanging experience with relevant
institutions and organisations. In this way, the Department is engaged in creating
adequate preconditions for the inclusion of the Republic of Croatia into EU
structures.
