The IEA Bioenergy Task 29 project aims to inform the public on the social and
economic effects of biomass utilisation for energy purposes and related development
opportunities for local communities. The project follows the International
Energy Agency’s project: Socio-economic Aspects of Bioenergy Systems that the
Republic of Croatia also managed in the period 2000 - 2003. Other participants in
the project, apart from the Republic of Croatia which manages the project, include
Austria, Ireland, Japan, Canada, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom
(www.iea-bioenergy-task29.hr). Activities within the project include the design of
educational web pages on the utilisation of biomass for energy production
(www.aboutbioenergy.info); organisation of conferences and publication of associated
proceedings; submission of recommendations to the Organisation for
Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and to decision makers within
participating countries.
The International Energy Agency is located in Paris. It is an independent energy
forum of the OECD which assembles 30 of the most developed countries in the
world. The Republic of Croatia, although formally not an IEA member state, participates,
through this and other projects, in the work of this respectable institution
since 1998.
