Feasibility Study for the Promotion of
Cogeneration in the Republic of Croatia
The aims of this project are to perform an analysis of relevant aspects of heat and
electricity generation in cogeneration facilities, elaborate two studies for the realisation
of the aforementioned activities in industry and services, and to recommend
necessary activities for the promotion of cogeneration.
This project represents a global analysis of everything that cogeneration can represent
in present circumstances on the Croatian energy market. The project was
sponsored by the Government of the Kingdom of Spain and the Ministry of the
Economy of the Republic of Croatia. It was implemented under the umbrella of
the National Energy Program of Cogeneration (KOGEN). The project was executed
in cooperation with the Institute Catalá d’Energia of Barcelona. Feasibility
studies were elaborated for energy efficiency measures in the textile industry
Varteks from Varaadin and in the Clinic Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb. International
experience was taken into account, Croatian market data was analysed and the
effects of various legal frameworks were compared. The above allowed experts
to reach conclusions on the baseline condition and to recommend measures for
stimulating the introduction of cogeneration.
